Community groups, churches and schools work with the police and council to develop the culture of peace and apply for recognition as a Peace City.

The aim is to promote tolerance, goodwill, friendships and respect for others and to reduce crime, hatred, property damage and violece in the community and demonstrate the total waste and negetivity of terrorism.

The only way to preserve life and resorces of our small planet is to work together in a constructive way, not to destroy life, infrastructure and the environment.

Plant a Peace Pole
Peace Poles are handcrafted monuments erected in many places the world over as an international symbol of peace. Their purpose is to spread the message like, MAY PEACE PREVAIL ON EARTH, and act as a constant reminder for us to visualize and pray for world peace.

Peace begins in the hearts and minds of each individual. As we learn to honor each other, our environment, animals and all creation on earth, the vision of global peace through sincere communication will gradually become a natural way of life.

The Peace Pole Project is a Non-profit, "grass-roots" movement. We invite you to join in the worldwide effort to bring this powerful message of peace to the people of all lands.

This is a Special Peace Pole at Boronia Hights Primary School that was dedicated with the school community and representatives of the Council, the Police, Rotary, Lions, Knights of the Southern Cross, People for Peace and Ministers of Religion in Knox.

Who Plants Peace Poles
Everyone can erect a Peace Pole. If you are inspired by the idea and wish to promote the message of peace, you can dedicate a peace pole as an individual, a family, with a group of friends or a school or other community group. They have been presented as gifts to friends in all walks of life-- from school children to presidents. In a ceremony at the United Nations, members planted a Peace Pole to express their collective responsibility to foster peace.

Make a Peace Pole
This simple design shows that a diverse society can be a strong caring community without hatred and violence.

Nail two 3 meter lengths of 125 x 35 mm of timber together forming a right angle along their length. Paint each a different colour so it is easy to see they are different and that TOGETHER THEY ARE STRONG signifying that a diversity of cultures together can be a force for good.

By igniting the flame of international friendship through the constant reminder, PEACE ON EARTH, we can stimulate a shift in attitudes in political, economical, environmental and social life.

Paint the word PEACE or MAY PEACE PREVAIL ON EARTH on two sides.
Dig a 400 mm deep hole about 300 mm in diameter.
Half fill with water.
Place the Peace Pole vertically in the centre and fill with Quick Set Concrete
Organise a dedication ceremony with a school, ministers of religion, the police, the council, representatives of service clubs, family, friends, etc.

The Peace cities Project aims to have several Peace Poles around the City of Knox with paving stones designed by children at Knox schools.
